The Influence of Premium Income, Investment Return and Underwriting on Profit Growth: Evidence of Listed Insurance Companies

Abstract


This aims of this research is to analyze the influence of premium income, investment returns and underwriting on theprofit growth of listed Insurance companies in Indonesia for theperiod 2017-2022. This study used secondary data obtainedfrom selected insurance companies' financial report withpurposive sampling technique. The selected sample size was 14firms, and it has 84 observations. The model estimation of thisstudy used the panel data regression analysis with Fixed EffectMode. The results show that premium income has a negativeand significant effect on company profit growth, this shows thatthe premium income paid Insurance customers have risks thatallow claims to occur, the greater the risk that will be borne, theimpact it will have on reducing company profits. The oppositeway, show that investment returns have a positive andsignificant effect on company profit growth. The results of thisresearch support the research hypothesis, which means thatincreasing funds used for investments lead cause investmentreturns to increase, which will later influence opportunities forcompany profit growth. On the other hand, different resultswere find that underwriting had a negative and insignificanteffect on company profit growth, which shows that the greaterthe underwriting risk, the lower the company's profit growth.
